This week we are learning about feelings & as many parents know, this age group is FULL of them! We have discussed simply being happy & sad. We've tried to explain the complex emotions we experience like being nervous, scared, surprised or shy.
When I brought out our art supplies for this project you bet we experienced a little bit of shock when the children saw what they thought were needles on the table. AHHHH! Unfortunately, many of our children have been getting immunization boosters and know all too well that shots "DON'T MAKE ME FEEL GOOD!" We talked about how, YES, shots hurt but doctors care about our well being and we need them for healthy bodies & minds! And then we talked about being brave & indeed how brave each of them are for getting shots and being stronger for it afterwards! Man did they think they were hot stuff!!
Once we talked about how these are safe & not shots there was a wave of excitement & sleeves being pushed up because they were ready to get started! We used the syringes to shoot the paint onto our coffee filter! Then once they were drained we shook the box lid around a bit to ensure most of our coffee filter was covered in paint! We let them dry (the hardest part of doing art with toddlers is definitely waiting for it to dry) Lastly, we folded them in half & cut into heart shapes! Next I will let the kids help hang them on the windows to be displayed proudly! (Pride! Another emotion!!)
